Within the city limits are 12 golf courses including 1 municipal course. The Professional Golfers Association of America calls Palm Beach Gardens home and is located at PGA National.
The city of Palm Beach Gardens is approximately 56 square miles in size with a population of approximately 49,000.
History In 1959 John D. MacArthur planned on developing 4,000 acres and named it Palm Beach Gardens. While he planned a population of 55,000, growth was slow but steady through the 1980's. The Gardens Mall was opened in 1988 which enhanced the desirability. In 1999 the John D. & Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation sold 5,000 acres which led to new growth within the city. The city has many gated communities and several with country clubs including BallenIsles, Old Palm, Mirasol and PGA National.
Education K-12 public education is administered by the School District of Palm Beach County, which is the eleventh largest school district in the country.
A satellite campus of Palm Beach Community College is located within the city and includes the Eissey Theater for the Performing Arts.
Festivals and Shows During the winter season Palm Beach Gardens hosts a Green Market on Sunday mornings.
