North Palm Beach

An incorporated village in Palm Beach County, North Palm Beach has a population of 12,645 as of 2004.  It's total area is 5.8 square miles of which 2.2 square miles is water.  The Village won an award for best planned community in 1956.

History
John D. MacArthur purchased 2,600 acres of land in 1954 for $5.5 million.  This land later became North Palm Beach as well as Lake Park, Palm Beach Gardens and Palm Beach Shores.  MacArthur developed North Palm Beach on what was mangrove swamps and farm land.

Notable Residents
Some celebrity residents past and present include: Jack Nicklaus, Perry Como, Mike Douglas, Jeff Atwater, Ryan Klesko, Gary Wiren, Gardner Dickinson and Gene Bates.

North Palm Beach Country Club
Sir Harry Oakes' castle-like home on US 1 became the clubhouse for the Village Course.  A complete renovation of the course was done in 2006 and is now an 18 hole, Jack Nicklaus "Signature" course, which is only 1 of 2 municipal courses designed by the Nicklaus team.  The renovation included a new irrigation system, total re-grassing of all the playing surfaces, new greens construction and improved fairway surface drainage.  Included at the facility is a lighted driving range, putting green, golf shop and locker room.

Also at the Club are 10 lighted Har-Tru tennis courts and an Olympic-sized swimming pool and diving platform.
